CAC started as an initiative to preserve the legacy of the first Canadian nonprofit focused on building the cell ag ecosystem in the North, Cellular Agriculture Canada.

It soon became an opportunity to convene diverse stakeholders and create an inclusive environment where challenges, opportunities, and action items will be openly discussed.

We believe Canada can become a leader in the cellular agriculture sector by leveraging some of the biggest strengths we have as a country: a strong legacy of agriculture and talent development. This will help Canada not only to maintain its leading position as a producer and exporter of agricultural products but also to tap into new areas of value-added agricultural biomanufacturing. To capture this opportunity, we believe coordination and cooperation amongst innovators, start-ups, and established companies along the supply chain, as well as government, researchers, academic institutions, and non-profit organizations, is needed to address the challenges and expand on the opportunities cellular agriculture could bring.

Cellular Agriculture Canada is an initiative led by New Harvest Canada to collaboratively advance Canada’s cellular agriculture ecosystem. Since 2023, we have brought together industry, nonprofits, academics and government representatives to strategize the collective future of the sector.

More than 50 organizations have participated across the three gatherings hosted so far, bringing together individuals from across the country, sectors and disciplines.
